A Woman of Strength and Dignity: Uyungaa

Looking Towards Mother’s Day

One of my favorite days is coming up in a few weeks. Mother’s Day! A day dedicated to celebrating the beloved women who brought us into the world. Holidays, like Mother’s Day, are a beautiful way to intentionally join God in loving on His creation.

When thinking of Mother’s Day, Proverbs 31 comes to mind. And when I read it, I can’t help but think of one of our artisans. “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue...Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate." Proverbs 31:25-31.

So, in honor of this special day, we want to take the time to highlight a very inspirational mother.

...

Meet Uyungaa

Uyungaa has worked with Mary & Martha, a fair trade organization in Mongolia, for the past 14 years. She joined this organization as a single mom caring for her two 6-year-old daughters who had significant health issues. Her daughters were born with displaced hips, requiring multiple surgeries over several years. The girls could not attend school because they were unable to walk; Uyungaa had to carry them everywhere.

Though there is great difficulty caring and providing for her children, Uyungaa works with all her heart. She relies on God’s grace and provision, she diligently works as an artist, and she is a pillar of strength for her children, literally.

Through her hard work and God’s faithfulness, Uyungaa was able to pay for her daughter’s surgeries. Her daughters are now 19 and able to walk! Uyungaa also has two more daughters and is remarried to her supportive, Christ-following husband. She has faced many trials, and her family still struggles with varying health problems, but her devotion to her family and the Lord has carried them through with joy and hope.

Partnering in Uyungaa’s Dream

Uyungaa’s greatest desire isn’t to sell her painted silk but to inspire through her art, and you can personally be a part of her dream. Uyungaa’s handpainted silk bag is in the latest Genesis Box. Each bag is different, a unique expression of her beautiful mind. We invite you to support this amazing mother while celebrating your mom by gifting her with The Genesis Box, where she will discover more powerful stories like Uyungaa’s. My life will never be the same because of these artisans, and I pray yours won’t be either.

With the greatest of Love and the deepest of wonder,
Kareena
